Rob Jay, born Robert J. Mayberry IV, has been blazing through the underground circuit in Atlanta, Georgia. Dubbed by many as the fearless lyricist, he brings an insight and intelligence to the craft of hip hop that is a rarity in today’s music scene. Hailing from Houston, Texas, Rob Jay attended Florida A&M University and graduated with a degree in business administration before moving to Atlanta. While in school he found a passion for directing music videos which eventually lead to him starting a production company, Shyve Entertainment Group. He quickly grew his company and seemed poised to make a run at being one of the top music video directors in the game. Throughout his three year career he worked with clients including Lil Scrappy, Bonecrusher, and Vibe Magazine. Though he progressed as a director, artistically he began to feel unfulfilled. “It just seemed like all the videos that I was doing were the same, girls, cars and money. I felt like I wasn’t growing as an artist. The other thing that I hated was always having to wait on someone. I was always waiting on someone to get their record deal, or get their money right, or get their schedule together to do a video. I just got tired of waiting, that’s when I figured hey I can record my own music and shoot videos for those songs. At least I know that they will get done and they will be something original.” This led to him recording his first single “Party Girl” a warning to men and an intelligent ode to women who want to live the socialite lifestyle. What started out as a mission to record one song soon became the development of a conceptual album, Art Life.
Art Life chronicles Rob Jay’s mission to find fulfillment through creating a product that allows him to sustain as an artist. Throughout this mission he finds himself talking about everything from spirituality to entrepreneurship to politics before completing his vision of securing the Art Life not only for himself but for his generation. “I really feel like I have my finger on the pulse of my generation right now” says Rob Jay. His short term goals are getting his music distributed and spreading his Art Life message to as many people as possible.

Cool focus and individuality. Nice beat too. I wonder if he does the beats too?
