(ATLANTA, GA) Less than a year after dropping "Girls & Ghetto Sh!t", Atlanta-based duo PROTON returns with their latest project, the "Red & Purple" mixtape.
PROTON has been popping up coast to coast, from LA's indoor clubs to NYC's outdoor Afro Punk Festival, sharing stages with the likes of veteran MCs Q-Tip, Talib Kweli, breakout artist Janelle Monåe, and VH-1 hip-hop starlet Amanda Diva. The duo has also been featured on an official Adult Swim compilation, and as one of URB Magazine's Next 100.
Now with the release of Red & Purple Vol. I, Proton showcases their lyrical talent alongside an assortment of their female counterparts.
Set to be released October 8, 2008, Red & Purple Vol. 1 features guest appearances by Amanda Diva, Maggie Horn, Jessica Tonder, Roxy Cottontail, Slick & Rose and Muffy. It is mixed by Toronto's own "Go To Girl", DJ Lissa Monet.
The 29 track mixtape also includes exclusive PROTON remixes of songs by a few of their favorite female artists, as well as rare b-sides, slow jams, and party anthems.
The mixtape and video release party will be held October 16, 2008 at Broke & Boujee in Atlanta. This will include live performances of new material by PROTON with DJ Lissa Monet.
With this project, PROTON seeks to blur the lines of distinction the industry has placed on male and female artists. Choosing "Red & Purple" instead of the traditional pink & blue, Proton illustrates how the two genders aren't really that different when it comes to their musical tastes, and the music they create.
